In contrast, the Reds' style of battle was magnificent. Stephenson's go-ahead hit in the top of the 2nd came by attacking the very first pitch immediately after McLain successfully stole a base to move the runner. The additional run in the top of the 3rd was a gritty one, where Steer's comebacker to the pitcher with the bases loaded induced an error from Giolito. And Suarez in the 10th, Stewart in the 11th. They all clearly understood "what they needed to do right now" and swung the bat without hesitation. This "decisiveness" and "aggressive posture" became the driving force that shattered the Padres' luxurious pitching staff. It was a moment when the fearless momentum unique to a young team transcended mere "tactical placement."
