Just look at the Dodgers' roster. Ohtani, Pages, Freeman, Betts. And following them are T. Hernandez and Kyle Tucker. Tucker is batting 6th! What an absurd accumulation of "value." They aren't just a haphazard collection of stars. Their overwhelming individual talents are organically linked through the "placement" in the batting order, systematically grinding down opposing pitchers' psyches.
The game ended 9-4. While the Athletics surrendered 17 hits, they also fought back with 11 hits of their own, showing pride in the 9th inning by capitalizing on a wild pitch by Dreyer to scrape across a final run. The 12,394 fans in attendance may have witnessed a defeat, but they also bore witness to a mammoth home run by Shohei Ohtani and etched the vibrant energy of their own young prospects into their memories.
Fighting in their temporary "home" of Sutter Health Park, the Athletics' collective "property value" as a team might be low right now. Feeling the Sacramento breeze, that is exactly what I found myself pondering.
